GENEALOGY OF HAMILTONS IN ALLEN COUNTY, INDIANA

Margaret (Hansen) Hamilton, when she was five years old, was kidnapped by Indians and held for several hours until her mother paid the ransom with freshly baked bread. She rode a covered wagon from Grand Island, Nebraska to St. Joseph, Missouri then on a train to Allen County, Indiana when she was sixteen. She outlived the actuarial charts on her life insurance policy and collected her own benefits. Her descendants still live in and around Fort Wayne.
