JAMES  ORMISTON   (1798 - 1886)
 
  
James studied at the University of Edinburgh and came to America when he was 21. He settled in East Springfield, Otsego Co., New York and joined the church where his uncle, Rev. Andrew Oliver, was pastor. He married his cousin, Agnes Ormiston Oliver, in 1818. After two daughters were born, they moved to Cherry Valley. James earned his medical degree from the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Fairfield, Herkimer Co., New York. The family moved to Indiana and James bought land in Wayne Twp., Allen Co. on 10 NOV 1836. After retiring from medical practice in the late 1850's, James and Agnes returned to Springfield with grandson, Ormiston Dunnie, and lived with her brother,  Robert Ormiston Oliver, and his family.
